Party time! Appetizer a-la-fodmap

We recently had a party and made some of our favourites for people to try. But this inspired me to write up a post about how to have a FODMAP appetizers for a party. I like food on a stick because generally it can be prepared before the party and allow you the maximum face time with your guests.

We created low FODMAP food on a stick:

We had to have a couple chips and some fresh veggies, so we didn’t put them on a stick but we did make our low FODMAP ranch sauce.

We did stick with the individual servings for dessert:

The party was a hit and it the fact that it was all low FODMAP and wasn’t even an issue. It was really easy to prep 95% ahead of time so we only had to finish things off. This allowed us to host-to-the-most and still deliver some knock out dishes.

Costco – Great options for your low FODMAP pantry

Costco is actually a great place to show for some low FODMAP pantry. They stock several staple ingredients that we use all the time that are low FODMAP and read so right in the ingredients. It’s great to see a company make it easy for people with IBS.

The staples we by there all the time:

  • Tomato Paste
  • Diced Tomatoes
  • Stock
  • Hellman’s Mayo
    • (Not tested by Monash but seems to be OK according to tummy testing YMMV)

Sure you can buy these else where, or make them yourself but sometime it’s a huge help being able to buy these and not make them yourself.

Please even though I’m telling you I buy these and use them I’m not sure what your Costco stocks. You should always check the ingredients before buying anything.

I am not getting paid for this shout out to Costco, I just really appreciate not having make my own pantry all the time.

If you also buy low FODMAP there please leave a comment and give a shout out to what you buy.

Low FODMAP simple cooking.

This website is all about making food simple. When my partner was diagnosed, she wasn’t a cook. She didn’t really cook at all. Living Low FODMAP is not an out of the box experience. You need to read every ingredient on the box or better yet just make it yourself. This website is really about learning to make it yourself. We try out best to make that easy and guide people that don’t know how to cook, how to do low FODMAP cooking. We have done the research and the work to try out each recipe. Yes, I love to cook, and so does my partner now. We both contribute to this website and hope to create a community of people that live the low FODMAP lifestyle, but make it simpler for others that don’t know how to cook, or don’t know recipes that are low FODMAP.

We could NOT have made this website without the FODMAP app. If you don’t have it and are living with IBS and looking to have a low FODMAP diet, it is a critical database of what you can and can’t eat. Please check it out.

How to cut a pepper

I guess I’m a little ridiculous cause I think there is an easy way and a hard way to dice up a pepper. So wash up and take of the sticker from the pepper

Here’s the easy way:

Remove the Sticker. Easy to forget so do it first.

Cut a pepper in half length ways:

Pepper on a cutting board cut in half length wise

Grab the middle(seeds) with your fingers and rip it out:

Put your fingers in behind the seeds and pull the seeds out.
Red pepper on cutting board with seeds ripped out.

Slice the top and bottom off:

1/2 of pepper sliced in half on a cutting board. Top and bottom cut off.

It’s always easier to cut a pepper from the inside out so leave the outside down on a cutting board. Diced up the ends of the pepper:

Cut middle of the pepper into strips

Now move the pepper strips on their side so you can dice them up.

Repeat with the other half…. the easiest way to dice peppers!

Lazy Day, might as well make some Chicken Stock

I like to cook and be lazy on Saturdays. I like to make a lazy recipe like my homemade Stock Recipe. Making stock is all about putting in minimal effort. I just use what in the fridge/freezer. Throw it in a pot (or an instant pot) and wait for the beautiful smell of fresh stock. It makes you feel productive, and lets you be lazy at the same time. Do this on a weekend, or when you are around home for a few hours, pop it in the freezer, and you can whip it out whenever you need some low FODMAP stock. WABAMM! You’ve made everything from scratch – even the STOCK!
