Why use an Insta’ Pot (Instant Pot)?

I love my Insta Pot (Instant Pot) cause I’m a foody. I use to be obsessed with Slow Cookers because they’re lazy cooking. You chop everything up and throw it in, and later when you come home everything is ready. The food slow cookers make is warm, comfort food. I love that being lazy is part of the slow cooker mentality. Low and slow is where the flavour comes from, so all the work of developing flavours is done by the slow cooker. FYI: It’s a Canadian Invention!

So with my love of slow cookers, came a digital slow cooker. This made it easy to program and I didn’t even have to remember to turn anything off. Then when I threw a party I also had a warming tray.

So if Life is good, what made me switch to an Instant Pot? Well, what if you could have all the loveliness of a slow cooked meal but didn’t have to wait 6 hours, but could have it ready in 1 hour? Enter the Instant Pot. It simply delivers the same food faster and easier. My friends kept talking about one and I finally asked for one for Xmas.

I once saved a dinner party with an Insta Pot. My friend invited us over for ribs, I arrived ~5pm and didn’t smell the ribs. I casually asked if we’d changed the menu. He said no, the ribs are in the fridge. To me I my chest constricted. How were we gonna eat ribs tonight? A slow cooker takes 6-8 hours to make ribs. How was he going to pull this off? Thank GOD I asked if he had a Insta Pot, whipped up a rib rub and then whip up the ribs in only 1 hour, and they were 100% fall off the bone. It was Amazing.

Is an Instant Pot faster at cooking everything? No not everything. They boast shorter cook times for *everything*, but forget to mention how long it takes to get to temp/pressure. Don’t get suckered in for simple things. There are real benefits in how it speeds up cook times compared to a crock pot of a slow cooker but for simple things like cooking a chicken breast, I think they might cook it faster by a couple of minutes but really you don’t get big gains.

An Insta’ Pot is very versatile. You can sear veggies and meat right inside the Insta pot before pressurizing it. This brings out the flavour, and you have to love the 1 pot for all cooking mentality. (This is a step up from a slow cooker as you typically need a separate pot/pan to sear.) I have used it at parties to simply keep dishes warm. If you have a die hard slow cooker in your family, don’t worry, and Insta’ Pot is a slow cooker too! Yes, it does pressure cooking, slow cooking, warming, and searing!

Did you know it’s looking like it’s no longer going to be an Inventor owned company. This is great news as it will ensure the business is run by a top player in the cooking world and will have a long future!

So if you are easy cooking, and comfort food, and are tired of waiting, buy an Instant Pot. If you do by an Instant Pot and use one of the links in the article to buy it it would help support the site. Trust me they are fantastic!
